Controls on andesitic glaciovolcanism at ice-capped volcanoes from field and experimental studies

چکیده
Abstract Glaciovolcanic deposits at Tongariro and Ruapehu volcanoes, New Zealand, represent diverse styles of interaction between wet-based glaciers andesitic lava. There are iceconfined lavas, also hydroclastic breccia subaqueous pyroclastic that formed during effusive explosive eruptions into meltwater beneath the glacier; they rare among globally reported products glaciovolcanism. The apparent lack hydrovolcanically fragmented andesite ice-capped volcanoes has been attributed to a sites because either thermal characteristics limit production or drains out through leaky down steep volcano slopes. We used published field evidence novel, dynamic andesite-ice experiments show that, in some cases, accumulates under on rates increase as pushes against an ice wall. concur with models for sheets showing glacial conditions pre-eruption edifice morphology more important controls style glaciovolcanism its than magma composition properties magmas. can be useful proxies paleoenvironment, range hydrological environments which erupts greater hitherto appreciated.

simulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water
abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...
Monitoring and modeling ice-rock avalanches from ice-capped volcanoes: A case study of frequent large avalanches on Iliamna Volcano, Alaska
Iliamna is an andesitic stratovolcano of the Aleutian arc with regular gas and steam emissions and mantled by several large glaciers. Iliamna Volcano exhibits an unusual combination of frequent and large ice-rock avalanches in the order of 1×10 m to 3×10 m with recent return periods of 2–4 years. We have reconstructed an avalanche event record for the past 45 years that indicates Iliamna avalan...
متن کاملAssessing lahars from ice-capped volcanoes using ASTER satellite data, the SRTM DTM and two different flow models: case study on Iztaccíhuatl (Central Mexico)
Lahars frequently affect the slopes of ice-capped volcanoes. They can be triggered by volcano-ice interactions during eruptions but also by processes such as intense precipitation or by outbursts of glacial water bodies not directly related to eruptive activity. We use remote sensing, GIS and lahar models in combination with ground observations for an initial lahar hazard assessment on Iztaccı́h...

متن کاملExperimental Studies on the Collision Behavior of Saturnian Ice Particles
The processes in the Saturnian rings are dominated by two effects. On the one hand there is a gravitational interaction of the ring particles with Saturn or its moons and moonlets increasing the eccentricity of the rings. On the other hand inelastic collisions between the ring particles occur and result in damping of the particles’ motion and therefore circularizing the orbits and locally confi...
